Call for proposals

Deadline has passed.

This workshop is designed to provide an intensive and scholarly process of peer review of draft chapters leading to publication of a volume of original scholarly research. Proposals must indicate a plan for writing and revising a chapter of approximately 3000 words within the timeline of the workshop, including revised research statements in late November 2022, a complete chapter draft by early February 2023, and a full revised chapter by April 2023. The workshop will prioritize research by early career scholars, defined as recipients of PhD’s within the last eight years (since 2014) or advanced doctoral students. Scholars who completed their doctoral degree prior to 2014 and have experienced delays or disruptions in scholarly activity are welcome to contact the project director to determine eligibility.

The workshop will prioritize research projects exploring data about underrepresented, minoritized, or marginalized populations, the experience of health in regions and chronological periods outside of dominant scholarly paradigms, and digital humanities methods and tools which examine themes related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Call for Papers requires information about the applicant, a title, abstract, research statement, and bibliography related to the proposed topic of the chapter, a discussion of current research plans, and commitments to attend and participate actively in the workshop. The research statement must address, in identified sections, the themes of data, health, and the digital humanities.

Workshop sessions will be scheduled on Wednesdays and Thursdays, usually for two hours, during the middle of the day (11 am to 3 pm), US eastern time. Meeting times will be finalized in late September at the time the chapter authors are invited to participate in the workshop. Scholars submitting proposals must confirm their availability within the general time blocks (11 am to 3 pm, Wednesday or Thursday) during the weeks of September 28, October 13, November 14, November 28, December 5, January 16, February 13, February 20, and April 10.
